About me

My name is Mattia, I’m a BACP registered integrative psychodynamic therapeutic counsellor offering face to face sessions (in East London) and online therapy sessions across the UK. I work short-term and open ended depending on your needs.  I am bilingual and I have been living in the UK for over twenty years and I offer counselling in English and Italian. Like all of us my personal inner journey and personal experiences have been filled with all the highs, lows and loss that mark the human condition. Having experienced the transformative power of therapy in my own life, I felt deeply inspired to support others on their own healing journeys, which led me to train as a therapeutic counsellor, and to volunteer with organisations like Mind and Headstrong Counselling

I work relationally and creatively, to support emotional expression and self-awareness. I believe that none of us heal in isolation, we are shaped by our families, communities, and wider social and cultural forces. In therapy, I often explore these broader influences with my clients, helping them understand how past experiences, inherited beliefs, and unspoken patterns impact their lives today.

Together, in therapy, we uncover the deeper layers that shape identity, connection, and purpose — creating space for insight, healing, and growth.

Therapy and Counselling with Mattia

Integrative Psychodynamic Approach

Choosing to explore your inner world in therapy is an act of courage, a step toward personal growth, self-acceptance, and a more authentic life.  I believe each person already carries an inner sense of what they need to explore. My role as a therapeutic counsellor is to offer a warm, confidential space, whether online or in person, where you can reflect on your experiences at your own pace, without pressure or judgment. I work with adult clients using an integrative approach to therapy and counselling, blending psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives to best support each person’s needs.

What Therapy Can Help With?
My approach to therapy is grounded in deep compassion. Together, we’ll gently unpack your past—looking at what was shaped by the need for safety or protection—and identify what truly aligns with your values and inner truth. We’ll look at how your early relationships, environment, and life experiences have shaped your emotions, behaviours, and ways of connecting with others, including how these patterns might play out in our work together. In our counselling sessions, we’ll work to heal emotional wounds, challenge unhelpful behaviours, and foster healthier, more meaningful relationships, develop greater self-awareness, strengthen resilience, and live with more authenticity and clarity.

Holistic Approach

I work with adults using an integrative approach to counselling and therapy, drawing from psychodynamic and humanistic methods to offer tailored, thoughtful support. Whether you're facing emotional challenges or seeking deeper self-understanding, therapy provides a compassionate, non-judgemental space for growth and reflection.

My focus is on your unique experience—not labels—empowering you to explore your potential.

SPECIAL AREA OF INTEREST

Support and Therapy for Religious Trauma, Spiritual Abuse, and Leaving Cults or High Demand Groups

I offer counselling for religious trauma, spiritual abuse, faith deconstruction, and recovery from cults or high-control groups, including those that may be religious, political, ideological, therapeutic, or personal in nature.

Leaving a high-demand religious group or cult, can involve untangling deep psychological, emotional, and social control. Survivors often face fear, isolation, or confusion as they begin to question long-held beliefs and identities. This process takes immense courage and I will support you in recovering if you have experienced coercive, cultic and/or spiritual abuse.

You are the expert in your own story. My role is to walk alongside you—as a supportive, compassionate ally, helping you reclaim your voice, rebuild trust in yourself, and move toward a life rooted in authenticity and personal agency.

My approach is trauma-informed and empathetic, offering a safe, non-judgemental space to explore your experience at your own pace. Together, we’ll work to understand the impact of coercive control, unlearn internalised messages, beliefs, and rebuild your sense of self.

Therapy can help you heal—and empower you to create a life on your own terms, free from fear and manipulation.

I believe spirituality can be a vital part of our human journey. Counselling does not take that away – it simply helps you heal from the wounds of the past, so that you can decide for yourself what spirituality or meaning looks like for you.

Ethics and Professional Practice in Therapy

As a therapeutic counsellor registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I follow their Ethical Framework, which puts your wellbeing, safety, and autonomy at the centre of our therapy work. To ensure you receive the best support, I take part in regular clinical supervision with a qualified supervisor. This helps me reflect on our sessions while always protecting your confidentiality and maintaining professional standards.

I regularly attend training as part of my continuing professional development (CPD) in counselling and therapy.

Data Protection & Confidentiality

Since May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has strengthened the protection of personal data. All client information and clinical records are securely stored—either on a password-protected computer system or in a locked filing cabinet—to keep your details safe and confidential.

I am registered with BACP and ICO.
